An April 15, 1925 photo from the Jack Tillmany collection. The Civic Center Market building was later the home of Wonderland, an amusement arcade. Jack surmises that the building couldn't survive as a market after the the more opulent Crystal Palace Market opened.
We're looking west on the south side of the street between 7th and 8th. That's a bit of the marquee of the Francesca Theatre, 1127 Market St. on the far left. It would be renamed the Strand in 1928. Way down the block beyond the Crystal Palace Market we get a glimpse of the short-lived Aztec Theatre at 1181 Market St. .
Another 20s look east. On the right is the marquee of the Wonderland building advertising "The big stunt of the year." We're toward the Francesca/Strand Theatre. Beyond it is the vertical for the Rivoli, the name the Embassy Theatre had at the time. It's a Jack Tillmany collection photo.
The defunct Wonderland. It's an undated photo from the Jack Tillmany collection.
