Opening: The building was constructed for the Trinity Methodist Church and was dedicated March 28, 1926. It was on the south side of the street with the lot bounded by 16th St. and Noe St.

The Shorter Players Theatre opened in the building on November 5, 1972. The operation was renamed the Eureka Theatre June 30, 1974.

Closing: The building was destroyed by fire October 11, 1981. Thanks to Jack Tillmany for all the research.

Status: There's now a mixed-use building on the site.

After a long search for a replacement site, Eureka ended up in the Mission district at 2730 16th St. See the page about that second Eureka Theatre. They opened there January 16, 1985 and closed March 1, 1992.

In 1998 the company ended up at the venue that had been the Gateway Cinema, 215 Jackson St.
