The Harrison Street Theatre

Opening: October 14, 1982 as a dinner theatre with "Champagne in a Cardboard Cup." The opening month photo taken by Tom Gray is from the Jack Tillmany collection. Jack comments that this may be the only surviving photo of the theatre.

This SoMa building is located on the south side of Harrison just west of 3rd, a block from the Moscone Center. That's the 80 freeway seen on the left side of the image.

The group's second production, "By George," opened October 27, 1982 and closed closed January 1, 1983. For the next year and a half the site operated as an "event" venue, the last of which was the Hookers Ball July 14, 1984. Thanks to Jack Tillmany for the research.

Closing: 1984 as the Harrison Street.

Status: The building survives with tenants in 2022 including Escape From New York Pizza, a club called The Crib and the nightclub City Nights. Mirror Corp. Events, an event planner, had also been in the building pre-pandemic.
