The Curran Theatre: interior views

The ticket lobby:

A 1933 photo from the Jack Tillmany collection. Geary St. is out the doors to the left.

A detail of the ceiling taken in June 1991 by Gary Parks.

Another 1991 ticket lobby photo by Gary Parks. He comments:

"The finest faux wood grain ceiling in a surviving San Francisco theatre was obliterated by the curious interior design whims of Carole Shorenstein Hays. The cast plaster relief remains intact, but the wood-grain finishes, obviously the work of a 1920s master of the craft, were destroyed. The walnut finish was consigned to tragic oblivion—replaced by a 'cheery' pastel paint job."

A post-renovation look at the ticket lobby. It was added as a comment to a 2018 post by Graham McBain on the Facebook page Theatre Architecture.

A chandelier detail. Thanks to Mark Jabara for the photo on Theatre Architecture. Chris Carlo and Bob Chaney comment: "The crystals are original. They are vines of California fruit: pears, grapes, grape leaves, apples...it is definitely unique. In the 70’s-80’s they were covered in years of white dust and spider webs. That was really quite moss-like."
