Opened: 2009 as Viz Cinema. Later it was renamed New People Cinema. For a short period beginning in 2011 it was SFFS: New People Cinema when the San Francisco Film Festival envisioned the theatre as their year-round "home screen."
The theatre is in the basement of New People, a store showcasing the latest in Japanese culture and merchandise. It's on the north side of the street between Laguna and Webster. In the photo from the New people website we're looking east on Post St.
The house is equipped for 35mm and digital. It's been used as a venue for the San Francisco International Film Festival, CAAMFest, the Green Film Festival, the J-Pop Summit and the Japan Film Festival of San Francisco.

More information: There's a 2011 SF Gate article about the period when the SFFS was taking over the house for what they envisioned as a year round programming venture.
