Opened: 1969. Thanks to Jack Tillmany for sharing this photo from his collection that was taken by Tom Gray. The building is on the north side of the street just east of Columbus in North Beach.
An ad for the Grotto. Jack Tillmany notes: "The only print recognition in the Chronicle for the Underground Film Grotto was a series of four of these tiny ads in February 1969. This one appeared February 22."
Closing: Evidently 1969 was it.
Status: The building survives with the basement currently unused.
