The Star Nickelodeon

1939 Post St.  | map |

Opening: This Fillmore district house opened in 1907. It was on the south side of the street between Fillmore and Steiner. The location was a block west of the current AMC Kabuki. The photo is from the Jack Tillmany collection. A detail from it appears on page 4 of his Arcadia Publishing book "Theatres of San Francisco."

Seating: 250

The Star is listed in the 1907-1908 edition of "Henry's Western Theatrical Guide." They note that the managers at the time were Hechtman & Sack. The publication is on Google books.

Closing: The date is unknown. Jack notes that the theatre probably didn't stick around very long.

More information: Jack's Arcadia Publishing book "Theatres of San Francisco" can be previewed on Google Books. It's available from Amazon or your local bookseller.

We had another Star Theatre nearby at Fillmore and Eddy, in the corner of the Chutes Park. It didn't last long either. It was burned out in the park's fire of 1911.
